Welcome to the Chicken Dick rancH ...
The Lodgeman was treated to some good ole Southern Hospitality. A BIG thank you goes out to Team Lodge buddy Kenny Hammons of McKinney Texas. You see, ... Kenny invited me down to hog hunt in the west Texas hill country on the famous Chicken Dick Ranch. We certainly had a great time. Really, ... Kenny treated me to a deluxe Hog Hunt including his personal guiding, lodging, and meals. Yeah, ... that's right ... Kenny cooked too. The Man can do it all. Maybe, I'll request him to be the Man of the Month soon.
The above photo shows Kenny, with his sons ( L-R ) Blake, Drew, and Chase. Sunday morning proved very successful, as Blake dropped a 200 plus pound Texas Hog, and I even called a coyote up close enough to lower the boom.
Blake shows off the tusks on his hog. Blake only needed one shot to drop his hog. Hunting with Blake was very enjoyable and Kenny and Staci should be very proud of their three sons.
Here, ... Kenny and Chase join Blake while Drew is still out looking for more hogs.
That same morning, ... I was calling for coyotes .... bam ( after three shots ) I got him.
It's not easy calling a critter out of this brush country. You don't have much vision and those western dogs seem to hide just out of sight.
The morning before ... Saturday March 28th .... this nasty Boar stayed out feeding in the road we placed a little corn on. I left my box blind and eased down the hill to find him trying to get every piece of corn. His bad, ... as my little .243 dropped him with one shot.
This Boar sported 1.5 tusks ... and was a 200 plus pounder.
Thanks to Kenny, ... and him giving me a tour the day before, ... we placed the corn in the right spot. I had a great time at the Chicken Dick rancH .... Thanks Kenny.
Hogs - Dogs & Chicken Dick
Here are some random photos from our weekend fun. Blake, Drew and Chase sure are good hunters and enjoyable to be around. We had a fun time, ... and hopefully, I can get the Hammons crew up to IL sometime for some Deer, Turkey or maybe some flathead grabbing.
