Outlaw Scores ...
The 2010 Turkey Seaon is complete as
Ole BC Outlaw and The Lodgeman team
up and harvest a young gobbler using
The rains continued to make hunting conditions unfavorable, ... but
we didn't let that stop us. With flooded fields, flooded creeks and
mud seemingly everywhere we walked ... we took to the timber in
search for turkeys wanting to avoid the water as well.
I scratched on the Kampp deluxe glass and slate combo call and had birds responding.
The problem ... they were across the flooded creek. Now, ... I know
ole Outlaw has some long legs and he could wade in deeper water
than I, ... but we made a big loop around the ridge and relocated.
We were working a pair of birds about 100 yards in the brush
when this young gobbler came in silent until about 20 yards and
damn near blew us over when he gobbled. Rick with the shot quickly refocused and dropped the hammer on this 18 pound jake.
All I know, I purred softly on the Kampps glass call and the birds go crazy.
Rick too, ... went a little crazy with his quick draw shooting from the hip. I don't know how he pulled off the shot. That bird got on top of us and had no clue he was around. If Rick hadn't been on top of his game ... we might have walked back through the muddy field empty handed. Regardless, Kampp Outdoor Products are stacking up the turkeys in Illinois and Missouri so far.
