Say hello to Shantane, ...
She's a friend of our very own ... Jessica Edd. Shantane is from Wright, Wy. and she had one outstanding 2008 season, ... a "Big Wyoming Grand Slam". When I saw the photos and read the stories it was easy to tell, ... Shantane loves to hunt. Her stories painted a picture for me and it's like I could see it all happening.
Here, ... Shantane shows off her first ever Antelope BOW kill. Now, I'll tell ya what , ... I may not be a Wyoming resident, ... but I've hunted Antelope in Wyoming since 1996. Anyone who takes a Antelope by bow and arrow is truly awesome. With wide open spaces and eyes always watching, ... this is one awesome feat ! ( Notice her shirt ... it reads " I'm probly the awesomest hunter I know" ) ( me too )
Here, ... Shantane and her Daughter pose with her last day, ... last minute deer harvest. She explained in a note to Jessica, that this was the first time her Daughter witnessed a successful harvest. You can see in the daughter's eyes how proud she was to be there, ... and certainly proud of her Mom too. I think the deer is going in the youngster's room too.
Here, Shantane shows off a dandy 3X3 tall Mule deer. Now, ... I read this story too and I think Miss Shantane needs to submit stories to some magizines. ( Because of time, space, and my basic lack of wanting to type a bunch, ... I'll condense greatly.) Shantane says, ... it was her last day again, ... and with that, ... she put on the "lucky" hunting T-shirt. ( Yeah, ... the one in the Antelope Photo - and if you look at her whitetail photo, ... she's wearing it then too ) So, ... back to the story, ... Shantane has the lucky shirt on, ... it's the last day of her hunt, ... and she says she "Missed". Well, here's the deal, ... sounds like she jumped the deer to both of their surprize ... took a running shot and missed clean. ( Hmmmm , ... sounds like my 2008 hunt too - Yeah I missed ... and then tracked down and jump him again ) Anway, ... this is Shantane's words ... "I was pissed" and the best part, ... " I was whiny and cranky". Here is her husband's advise ... "get over it and let's go get him". Man, ... you gotta love hunting with your spouse. With a second chance, ... Shantane crawled within 175 yards and placed a clean single shot to drop her buck.
I saved the biggest for last. Shantane is all smiles taking her first ever Elk. She says she's hunted 5 years watching her husband ALWAYS get an Elk, ... but she was yet to score. Well, ... Shantane's time has came. After a mishap, ... the guys, ... in all the excitement of finding Elk couldn't decide which Elk to shoot because several Bulls were available. By the time her Husband and Hunting Buddy tried to figure out the best Elk, ... they moved away and out of sight. They put on a stalk to close the distance and Shantane got another opportunity and place one shot from 200 yards and put this nice bull down. (notice the T-shirt under her coat, ... yep, ... it's the same T-Shirt wore on every hunt)
She'd like to thank Vicki & Glenn for using their "Water Hole" for the Antelope, and thank her Husband, Father-in-Law, and DAUGHTER for helping during the deer hunts, ... and lastly thank the two men above on the Elk hunt for all their help. And lastly, ... one of my favorite lines from her note, ... "and all of my friends and family who have listened to my hunting stories this year, and acted like they really cared".
