Doug ...
" SLAMMER "
Hammer ...

puts the Slam on the best bird of 2010.
Here he is ... SLAMMER!
Doug, now known simply as Slammer has a big grin with this beauty.
This Brown County Gobbler sported 1 7/8 inch spurs. and a beard
going 11 1/4. It's beautiful copper and cream tipped feathered made
this bird really stand out as well. Slammer got to listen to this bird
gobble off the roost two different mornings before the final strut. The
big Tom flew down and strutted into the 40 yard range. Ole Slammer
waited and watched a grand show that morning. The Outlaw and myself
was also along to take in the event. It was a good morning indeed.
Now, ... you can't brag on spur length ... without proving it. I mean, ... if I say, ... WOW Slammer's bird had nearly 2 inch spurs, ... you all would think I'm stretching the truth. So, ... rather than brag, let the photos tell the story.
These were sharp ... and the left leg was a mere 1/8 from 2 inches long.
These were the longest spurs I've seen ... WOW !
We took the bird back up the hill where he was roosted for this photo. The circle on the large rock is Kampp's glass and slate combo call. Rick ( Outlaw ) used it while I used Kampp's mouth calls to lure this wary Tom into range. Kampp Calls did their job all season long. If you haven't picked one up, ... you better. They sound great and the birds come in. It's that simple. I think Doug is telling Rick ... "that last call you made sealed the deal"  It's no wonder why Erik ( Rick's son ) calls so well, he learned from the best.
With Rick and I calling softly ... and lightly ... this bird was pulled close
enough. It took nearly 30 minutes to bring him twenty yards closer ...
but when in range ... Slammer put the Slam down.

I like hunting with Ole Doug Slammer ... we do good !
