Sledge and TheLodgeman ... dropped the "Double Hammer" on two late season birds.
Hunting in Brown County sure is fun, ... but more importantly , ... hunting with good friends makes it enjoyable. Doug and I have hunted three days in 2009 ... and three birds have fallen. I think that's pretty good success.
After hunting May 7th and 8th with Keith and Wesley Carnley leaving my gun in the truck ... it was good pulling my trusty 835 out of the case. With my third permit, ... picking up a 5th season Brown in the left over tag draw, ... I was off to meet long time friend Doug Hammer at his family farm. We met at 4:30 am ... quickly decided where to hunt ... and off we went.
The first day found us staring and watching several toms hang up with two hens ... and no matter how much coaxing we did ... they would not break away from them. We, ... took the walk of shame back to the truck ... but did gain knowledge for the next morning hunt.
So, ... day two ... found us sat up in a perfect spot. Here's the results of our morning ...

Here TheSledge and I .... sit with the first bird of the morning. We had a nice Tom strut into Super Tommy ... and Doug allowed me to harvest my first Brown County Gobbler in over 10 years. I hadn't hunted BC ... since way back in the early 90's.

Here ... Doug and I give the Outlaw Salute ... as this bird was number 13 for the season.

With three permits for 2009 ... I was happy to harvest a nice gobbler for my final bird. So that's ... three permits ... and three birds. Not bad.

After we got some coffee ... we headed back out. We spotted a small flock working along a bottom field, but could not lure them in. So, ... we relocated again and spotted a group of turkeys cutting across a field. We watched them, trying to determine where they were going. Once it was clear, Doug and I quickly looped around the field and set-up waiting for them to appear. Sure enough, ... the first two were a couple of young gobblers ... and the second hammer was dropped. We ended the 2009 season with a double !

After photos ... Doug allows me to pack number 13 and 14 to the truck.

We had one fantastic season ... I hunted with lots of fine people .. and we had much success. I'd like to thank everyone who joined me. It's hunting with people that makes the experience. If you have any turkey photos ... continue to send them in. We'll add the photos to the 2009 Turkey Review as long as they continue to be submitted. Send to ...
