And the SLEDGE comes down ....
Doug "The Sledge" Hammer sent me a text message reading ... "you want to call me a turkey?" Well, ... with Doug's invite how could I not join up with him. Doug and I had a beautiful morning for hunting. Birds were gobbling at 5:20 am giving us plenty of time to set up. I brought along "Super Tommy" and he did his job.
I think our success can be credited to the hat Doug is wearing. He pulled out one of the first Lodge Hats ever made, that hat is nearly 10 years old.
We had two nice gobblers walk out at 6:10 am .... right to "Super Tommy".
With dew still on the ground, ... it got the beard wet and nicely showed off it's length. A "DOUBLE HAMMER" tactic was used on this bird ... better known as two shots ! Hey, sometimes one shot doesn't quite do it, so hit'm twice !
After a little sunshine ... and allowing the Bird to dry out, ... we took a few more photos to show off the good thick beard this one had.
The Sledge is all smiles as the morning ended quickly and our coffee break came before 7:00 am.
This was the first time Sledge and I hunted ... I think maybe we'll try again ? Thanks Doug for allowing me the opportunity to hunt with you and enjoy an awesome morning of turkey calling fun. This bird weighed in at 23.5 pounds with 1.25 spurs.
