Meet the HOG KINGS of Brown County.
Erik Reich and Jerek Jones headed out Sunday afternoon. With operations ceasing for a couple of months, Erik requested permission to go out and hunt the final time of the season. Well, The Malone's crew had wrapped up a 5 hog harvest ... Hmmm ... what were the chances ?
I doubted they would have any luck as it rained all morning. Our hunters had just put a pretty good dent in the herd and the pasture was so tall with so much rain from a very wet spring. He couldn't do any good, ... could he ?
Once the rain broke, ... Erik and Jerek ... ( I swear the names are real - who could make up that duo ) marched out into the wet timber and weeds to find some hogs. Thanks to Rick's advise, ... and Erik listening to his dad, ... he stumbled upon this huge sow in the creek. We saw several hogs during our scouting in the prior weeks. We knew many hogs were around. Rick told Erik where he would hunt if he or I were going to go out.
WOW , ... This sow was huge ... we guessed it to go over 300 pounds.
We figured this old sow was getting ready to have a litter. Great job Erik and Jerek for stopping the further expansion of feral hogs.
Now, ... you can see by the smile on Erik's face he is as happy as a pig in the mud. Well, ... here's the rest of the story, ... Since if was so nasty out, ... and our hunters had just covered most of the area for several days, ... I bet him $100 he would strike out. Yep, ... $100 challenge. Now look again at that face ... he's counting the dollars already. In fact, ... he was counting the dollars as he squeezed the trigger.
Now, ... Erik and I were supposed to turkey hunt together this spring, but since he did not get a permit ... we didn't hunt. Once I found out that, ... I told him that I was so disappointed and his future with my daughter was in jeopardy. I mean come on, ... I can't have a son in law that fails to get a turkey permit? I might give him another chance ... as he has redeemed his self slightly with a hog hunt pulled from his a$$ ! Remember Erik, ... she won't wait forever !
Erik and Jerek , ... We salute you too ... as neither of us thought you could do it ! Enjoy the two fifty dollar bills as you are the new ... Kings of the County !
